  Founded in 1958, Changzhou Institute of Light Industry (CZIIT) is a full-time public model vocational college under the direct administration of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. It is located in Changzhou Science and Education Town, which is quite well-landscaped and integrates teaching, scientific research, training, vocational skill appraisal and social service for the hinterland of the most developed Yangtze River Delta.It stands near to China Spring and Autumn Yancheng Scenic Area.

CZIIT covers an area of nearly 165 acres, with a floor area of nearly 300 thousand square meters. It mainly has School of Material Engineering and Technology, School of Mechanical Engineering and Technology, School of Electrical Engineering and Technology, School of Economic and Trade Management, School of Information Engineering and Technology, School of Tourism and Culinary Arts, School of Artistic Design, School of Rail Transit Engineering and Technology, and above all, School of Overseas Education. There are over 50 majors all together.

CZIIT boasts over 100 experiment and training centers represented by a national NC technology training base, a mechatronics training base, Jiangsu intelligent manufacturing line training platform, “Internet +”business scene training platform, Jiangsu home appliance testing and maintenance training base, Jiangsu digital design and R & D center, and LED applied engineering technology R & D center.

For 3 consecutive years, CZIIT has been awarded the “advanced unit of Jiangsu vocational skills competition”, for 8 consecutive years awarded “advanced unit of Jiangsu vocational skills appraisal”. In 2014, the college was awarded the “advanced vocational education unit in Jiangsu”. In 2015, it was honored with the cradle of highly skilled talents in Jiangsu province.

It is home to more than 10,000 full-time students, and nearly 600 faculty members, 32% of whom are associate professors and professors, 66% of whom have master’s degree or doctoral degree, and 84.19% of whom are double-qualified teachers. There are 2 provincial excellent teaching teams, 1 provincial excellent scientific and technological innovation team, 3 national outstanding teachers, 3 provincial technical experts, 3 famous teachers in Jiangsu Province, 4 trainees of “provincial 333 project”, 13 trainees of “Qinglan Project”(Qinglan, meaning that blue comes from the indigo plant but is bluer than the plant itself and alluding that the trainee surpasses the master), 35 senior technicians, 59 technicians, 8 excellent teaching teams at college level. The 5 professors serve as the brains of Changzhou Municipal Government to offer suggestions for the service of local industrial structure and upgrading.

In response to the strategic plan “Made in China 2025”, CZIIT offers majors related to new industries in accordance with the actual development of new technologies, new models and industrial structures. There are 2 key majors enjoying central financial support, 3 key major
 groups at the provincial level, 2 brand majors at the provincial level and 5 characteristic majors at the provincial level. It prides itself on 6 national quality courses, and 6 state-level quality resources sharing courses. There are 25 textbooks selected as the 12th Five-Year national planning books for Vocational Education by Ministry of Education. Its students have won 13 first prizes in the national vocational skills competitions.

Insisting on the concept of “cooperation for mutual benefit, service for regions”, CZIIT actively expands the social service platforms and strengthens the social service function. In close cooperation with Xingyu Car Lamp, Changfa Group, Jinchuang Group, Xinrui Heavy Industry, Jiangsu Hengli Hydraulic and other famous large groups and companies, they have built jointly two provincial research and development platforms and three municipal public technology service platforms. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, it undertook 102 vertical projects and 193 horizontal scientific research projects, including 8 national projects, 20 provincial projects and 47 municipal scientific research projects. It has won 1 first prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Award, 1 second prize of Jiangsu University Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 National Torch project, 1 second prize and 1 third prize of Jiangsu Light Industry Association Science and Technology Progress Award.

In order to serve the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), CZIIT takes the construction of international cooperation projects as the starting point, and takes “going abroad” to actively carry out technical skills training as a breakthrough for the enterprises. It is committed to promoting international education, curriculum development, teaching staff’s progress, social services and academic exchanges totally and in every respect. To finish “study abroad” project, it has organized over 150 professional teachers and administrators to exchange, further study, and be trained in countries and regions whose vocational education are developed so as to broaden their international vision. By cooperating with Jiangsu Excellence Education Development Foundation to launch domestic associate-to-overseas undergraduate projects, it provides students with a variety of channels for international exchanges and further study. In cooperation with the German stateBaden-Württemberg, it succeeded in launching the “Hug Teaching Model Reform” project to explore the reform of teaching model. Since 2016, CZIIT has admitted more than 300 foreign students from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Sudan, Laos and other countries, which is shaping its level of international school running.

In the new era, all the teaching staff of CZIIT, especially those from School of Overseas Education, are making united efforts to promote connotative and innovative development, and establish a distinctive, first-class vocational college throughout the whole country.
